Please be advised that garbage collection will occur the week of: Dec 5th, Dec 19th, Jan 2nd, Jan 16th, Jan 30th, Feb 13th, Feb 27th, Mar 14th, Mar 28.

Amnesty Program (formerly Spring Clean Up)

Garbage Collection

Residents and businesses, under the Municipal Garbage By-law 2544 are expected to meet the following requirements:

  • Proper receptacles must be placed at the curb for collection
  • Maximum bag size acceptable shall be 36 in. high X 24 in. diameter.
  • Maximum weight shall be no more than 23 kg's. (50 lbs.)

Residential refuse collection is provided through an agreement with Phippen Waste Management. Phippen is a private contractor that provides weekly collection and bi-weekly collection during the winter months.

Collection routes are identified in the table below including the day of collection. The associated map provides further clarification of the various routes.

During the summer months collection is weekly with a two (2) bag residential limit; during the winter season (first week of December to the last week of March) collection is bi-weekly with a four (4) bag residential limit.

Landfill Operations

The City owns two (2) landfill sites; the Haileybury Landfill and the New Liskeard Landfill. Currently the operations at the New Liskeard Landfill have ceased due to reaching capacity. All refuse generated within the boundaries of Temiskaming Shores is disposed of at the Haileybury Landfill Site. The Haileybury Landfill Site is located on Dump Road off of Highway 11. Refer to the location map for directions. The landfill is operated and maintained through a contract with Phippen Waste Management with the following operating hours:

 Tuesday to Saturday 8:30am to 4:30pm
 Sunday, Monday, Statuatory Holidays CLOSED


Notes:
1. If a Statutory Holiday falls on a Monday the next day Tuesday will be recognized as the Statutory Holiday and the landfill will be closed.
2. Be courteous and allow sufficient time to unload refuse prior to closing time of 4:30 p.m. Do not show up at 4:20 p.m. with a large load.

Amnesty Program

Council Resolution 2011-213 eliminates the Spring Clean-Up Program which normally occurred annually the week following the long weekend in May. The resolution carried on April 5, 2011 introduces and implements an Amnesty Program in lieu of the Spring Clean-Up Program. The new program consists of three (3) weeks of amnesty (no applicable Tipping Fees) at the Landfill Site on the following annual weeks:

Spring Amnesty

Starts the 3rd Tuesday in May and ends Saturday (includes the Tuesday and Saturday).

Summer Amnesty

Starts the 3rd Tuesday in July and ends Saturday (includes the Tuesday and Saturday).

Autumn Amnesty

Starts the 3rd Tuesday in October and ends Saturday (includes the Tuesday and Saturday).

The Amnesty Program has the following restrictions/conditions:

  1. Applicable to residents of Temiskaming Shores and is not applicable to Industrial - Commercial or Institutional entities;
  2. Amnesty shall include no applicable Tipping Fee for brush;
  3. Tipping Fees remain applicable for Category 4 Items - Contaminated Waste;
  4. Surcharge fee of $60 remains applicable for Metals/Bulky Waste containing Freon gas.
