PUBLIC COMPLAINTS POLICY AND FORM – TEMISKAMING SHORES POLICE
SERVICES BOARD
Ontario
Provincial Police North East Region
What is Community Policing?
It is a partnership between the community and the police.
This partnership is dedicated to the identification and resolution
of crime, partnership shares in the responsibility as well
as the effort in the resolution of the problems.
The goal is to improve the quality of life in the community.
How does it work?
Through communication consultation and representation, policing
priorities in a community are established by the citizens.
In effect, what is of concern to the police. Community priorities
become police priorities. These concerns are brought to the
police by way of a Community Policing Committee.
"community priorities are police priorities"
What is a Community Policing Committee?
It is a group of community minded citizens who are interested
in either improving or maintaining the quality of life in
their community. They meet periodically to identify traffic,
crime or social order problems in their community and bring
these problems to the attention of the police. At the same
time, the committee takes an active role in working with the
police to resolve the problem. They DO NOT act as investigators
or informants.
"the community policing committee and the police are
partners in the problem solving process"
What can my community expect from Community Policing?
When citizens support Community Policing and the efforts of
their Community Policing Committee, they help to ensure:
• security of property
• public safety
• concerns are heard
• a reduction in crime and traffic problems
• a quality life community
How can Community Policing be supported in my Community?
Through participation and involvement with:
• police/citizen community meetings
• crime prevention programs
• police services surveys
• support of community/police initiatives
As a police service we rely on community participation and
input to make community priorities our priorities. Neither
the community nor the police can alone do what is required.
Together, we can make a difference.
