The New Liskeard arena is open all year-round and is a very busy place. Please contact Wayne Arsenault at 705- 647-5728.

There is also a women's hockey league, an "Old Timers" league, a figure skating club as well as public skating. Hockey and skating schools are offered year round.

Beaches:


The beach at New Liskeard has a one-mile beach and a boardwalk which runs along Lake Temiskaming. Two beach volleyball courts and tennis courts are available for public use as well as organized leagues and play. Mini-Putt, two concession stands, washroom facilities, picnic areas and a restaurant on the waterfront allow you to spend a fun filled day by the lake.

The Haileybury beach consists of an enclosed waterfront with a pump house that continually chlorinates and cleans the water. The supervised beach is approximately 100 metres square, has areas sectioned off for swimming lessons and free swim, 150' water slide, water fountain, water umbrella and wading pool, a raft and several feet of dock. The beach house contains washrooms and change areas. Swimming lessons are offered in two sessions during the summer with the AquaQuest program. For information on dates and cost, contact the recreation department at 672-2520. Supervised from the end of June to the end of August.

Boating:

The Ottawa River Waterway was officially opened on August 21, 1993 to boaters - (then named the "Lake Temiskaming/Ottawa River Waterway"). You can now travel by powerboat from Arnprior (west of Ottawa) to New Liskeard, which is at the northern end of Lake Temiskaming. A trip down the Waterway is an exciting adventure. When you arrive at one of the bypasses your boat will be taken around the bypass by hydraulic boat trailers and you travel around the Hydro Dams in a vehicle.Come visit us by boating up the "Ottawa River Waterway". Lake Temiskaming provides excellent opportunities for power and sail boats.

Join us on the historical Upper-Ottawa (Temiskaming) waterway aboard the "Lady Belle II" for an educational & scenic voyage on one of the north's most important waterways. Call 647-5757 for more information

Bowling: Haileybury hosts a 5 pin bowling alley. The Tri-Town Bowling Lanes are open during the Fall and Winter months. Phone: 672-3117
Camping/Tenting:

In New Liskeard there is Beach Garden Campgrounds.  Shower and bathroom facilities on site.  6 cabins are available for you to rent also.  There are multiple RV and campsites with optional electrical hook-ups.  Located on 7 acres of land directly on the New Liskeard Waterfront.  For pricing and availability please call 705-647-5060

South of Haileybury there is Bucke Park Campground
Open - May to October Daily, Bucke Park is a municipal tent and trailer park. It has 34 sites with electrical hook-ups, a concession booth, showers and a large waterfront area providing fishing, swimming, boat launching and access to walking trails including the scenic Devil's Rock.

Communities in Bloom:

What is Communities in Bloom? People, Plants and Pride. Growing Together Communities in Bloom is a non-profit Canadian organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community participation and the challenge of a friendly competition. Expert, specially trained volunteer judges travel across Canada during the summer to evaluate municipalities on eight key criteria: Floral Displays, Turf & Groundcover Areas, Landscaped Areas, Heritage Preservation, Tidiness Effort, Environmental Awareness, Urban Forestry, and Community Involvement.

New Liskeard Horne Granite Curling Club, Whitewood Ave. - Phone 705-647-4422. This curling club offers a men's, ladie's and mixed curling league, numerous bonspiels throughout the winter and a summerspiel, with a fun theme, in August. This club boasts many curling championships and achievements including runner up at the Senior Men's Canadians 1996.

Empire Cinema Twins: In New Liskeard two screen theatres showing current hits twice nightly, plus weekend matinees. The theatre, in conjunction with the New Liskeard B.I.A. offers free children's matinees during the summer. Empire Theatre.

"Riverside Farmers Market" is located on the Waterfront in the Riverside Place, New Liskeard. Markets are held each Saturday morning starting June and running to the end of October. Times are 8:00 am to 12:00 Noon, and feature the sale of the best fresh produce, fruit, meat, poultry, flowers, baked goods, and crafts. Why not start your Saturday there with breakfast?

Fishing:

Fishing is a favourite winter and summer pass time in the area. Lake Temiskaming and another 25-30 smaller lakes offer pike, trout, pickerel, bass and various other species for the angler. And don't forget the annual Bass Fishing Tournament.

Golf Courses:

The New Liskeard Golf Club, with a full 18-hole course and numerous tournaments through the summer, is one of the most popular courses in Northern Ontario. Located just north of New Liskeard off highway 11, the New Liskeard Golf Club boasts one of the most scenic 18 hole courses in the north. Surrounded by beautiful farmland and with it's brand new back nine holes opened in August 1996, a visit to the club is a must. Complete with a driving range, 2 putting/chipping greens, licensed clubhouse, a Pro Shop, and special events happening every week, you can be sure that all your recreational needs will be met. Guiding Services:

Guiding services on and around Lake Temiskaming, Lady Evelyn, Lake Temiskaming, Lake Temagami. Fish for Walleye, Lake Trout,Smallmouth Bass or even Aurora trout. Shore lunch is always included. Call Don Chartrand at 648-4842. Experience the northern waters and the wonders they have to offer!

Haileybury Pavilion and commemorative sculpture:

At the Haileybury waterfront is the much used building named the "Pavilion" and in front of it is a commemorative bronze sculpture depicting the Great Fire.

Health Services:

For information about public health services please visit the website for the Timiskaming Health Unit. Their website provides help with Public Health; Mental Health; and Addiction Services.

Hiking/Biking:

There are a number of trails in the area that offer scenic and safe routes for nature enthusiasts. Bird Watching - The Casey and Hilliarton Marshes allow bird watchers to view many different species of birds and wildlife in their natural habitat. Contact Bruce Murphy at 679-5030 for more information and other ideal locations.

Devils Rock is a fault cliff dated to 2,200 million years. It has a face of 600 feet rising 300 feet above the water level. Interesting features are the scars of mining tunnels chiseled into the cliff during the silver rush era.

RockWalk Park in Haileybury is a fascinating way to spend a day or an afternoon.

Horseback Riding: With many scenic trails and quiet back roads, horse enthusiasts will have no trouble finding safe areas to ride in. There are boarding and schooling stables in the area which offer lessons and clinics for the beginner and advanced riders. Two local horse clubs provide the opportunity to compete in both English and Western Events.

Hunting:
Hunters from as far away as the United States travel to the New Liskeard area during the hunting seasons. Hunting in the area offers small game, migratory bird, moose and bear. There are many excellent hunting camps close by.

In our area we have two fully-equipped Marinas to choose from, both on Lake Temiskaming.
New Liskeard Waterfront Marina located at the far end of Wabi Bay on Lake Temiskaming.
Haileybury Marina on the west side of Lake Temiskaming at the mouth of Wabi Bay features a 170-slip Marina/Free Launch.

Temiskaming Shores Minor Hockey:

The Temiskaming Wildlife Centre is a wildlife rehabilitation facility that cares for injured, sick and orphaned northern Ontario wildlife. The TWC is a great rest stop for highway travelers with a playground, clean washrooms, gift shop, and a 1.3km wheelchair-accessible trail which staff and volunteers guide visitors along to learn about our northern wildlife. Services are available in either French or English.

Our hours of operation for the summer are 10am to 5pm, 7 days a week, with guided tours running every hour on the hour. We are looking forward to your visit. "Manitou" a 20000kg welded steel buffalo stands guard at the entrance of the Temiskaming Wildlife Centre.

Parks and Playgrounds:

In New Liskeard the Algonquin Memorial Beach Park has everything to offer for summertime activities. Three baseball diamonds, a soccer field, sandy beach, concession stand, washroom facilities, beach volleyball courts, a fully accessible playground and a beautiful picnic area just off the boardwalk make this a popular spot in the summer.
The Kiwanis Park, beside the Pool/Fitness Centre, offers a children's playground, a mini-putt and batting cage, a concession stand, washroom facilities, outdoor grills for barbecuing and a picturesque view of Lake Temiskaming.

Petes Dam: If you like meandering over waterfalls or are looking for a nice place to picnic then head to Pete's Dam located just west of New Liskeard on Highway 65. Pack a picnic lunch and relax next to the gentle falls at Pete's Dam.

Shuffleboard - Outdoor

Tri-Town Senior Shuffleboard Association:
Four outdoor Shuffleboard Courts are located in at Rotary Farr Park in the former town of Haileybury, now a part of the City of Temiskaming Shores. The courts are fenced and wheelchair accessible with sun shelters over the player area. We now have wind screening around the courts for player and spectator comfort plus benches for those wanting sideline seating. The shuffleboard facility was made possible through grants from the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Tri-Town Foundation,
Donations from local sponsors and contribution by members. Membership is open to all adults with visiting players welcome. Scheduled play is from mid-May to mid-September on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 1:30pm. Skiing:

Just a few miles south of Temiskaming Shores you will find the Tri-Town Ski Village (705-672-3888). It offers excellent downhill ski facilities.

Also just a few miles to the south is the Temiskaming Nordic Ski Club (705-679-5106) host to the 1996 Provincial Championships, 1997 and 1998 Northern Ontario Division Series, provides exemplary groomed trails for the beginner or experienced skier. Snowmachining:
With a four month winter season, a wide variety of well maintained trails and incredible scenery this is the place to snowmachine. The Tri-Town Sno Travelers (TTST), a dedicated group made up of 6 neighboring communities, maintain 129 km of top trails and 186 km of local trails. As a central location, North Bay, Sudbury, Timmins, Rouyn-Noranda and Cochrane are only a days ride away. Many events take place throughout the winter including "Snowfest". Tri-Town Soccer Club

 

With roughly 500 participants a year.  Soccer is popular and a growing sport for children and young adults in our area.  The Tri-Town Soccer Club is a non-profit organization that runs all the soccer programs in our community.   For any questions, please visit their website at www.ttsc.ca.
Temiskaming Art Gallery:

The Gallery, which contains a two level exhibition area, represents the Tri-Town and surrounding district. Although it concentrates on works by Northern artists, the gallery also hosts many exhibits from the south, including exhibits from the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Royal Ontario Museum. Each exhibit runs 3 - 4 weeks and covers various art media. The gallery also exhibits its own permanent collection of art work donated by many well-known local artists.

Temiskaming Track and Field Club: The TTFC is a locally organized club and member of the Ontario Track and Field Association.
Tennis Courts: Situated beside the New Liskeard Waterfront Pool and Fitness Centre, 3 courts allow you to play - facing a beautiful view of Lake Temiskaming.

We have a local bus service named "Tri-Town Transit". For rates/schedules/route information please click here.

Ontario Northland offers both train and bus services with regularly scheduled trips. Contact Ontario Northland at 1-800-461-8558 for schedules and fares.

Airport: There is a private airport at Earlton just 20 minutes by road from New Liskeard. There is a 6000 ft. x 150 ft. asphalt runway, and a 3015ft x 150 ft. gravel runway. There is a Geodetic Positioning Landing System (GPS). It is an authorized CAN-PASS custom Agency and has a full service fuel depot. For more information call 705-563-2244.
