Beaches:
|
The
beach at New Liskeard has a one-mile beach and a boardwalk
which runs along Lake Temiskaming. Two beach volleyball
courts and tennis courts are available for public
use as well as organized leagues and play. Mini-Putt,
two concession stands, washroom facilities, picnic
areas and a restaurant on the waterfront allow you
to spend a fun filled day by the lake.
The Haileybury beach consists of an enclosed waterfront
with a pump house that continually chlorinates and
cleans the water. The supervised beach is approximately
100 metres square, has areas sectioned off for swimming
lessons and free swim, 150' water slide, water fountain,
water umbrella and wading pool, a raft and several
feet of dock. The beach house contains washrooms and
change areas. Swimming lessons are offered in two
sessions during the summer with the AquaQuest program.

Boating:

The
Ottawa River Waterway was officially opened on August
21, 1993 to boaters - (then named the "Lake Temiskaming/Ottawa
River Waterway"). You can now travel by powerboat
from Arnprior (west of Ottawa) to New Liskeard, which
is at the northern end of Lake Temiskaming. A trip
down the Waterway is an exciting adventure. When you
arrive at one of the bypasses your boat will be taken
around the bypass by hydraulic boat trailers and you
travel around the Hydro Dams in a vehicle.Come visit
us by boating up the "Ottawa River Waterway".

Park Campground
Open - May to October Daily, Bucke Park is a municipal
tent and trailer park. It has 34 sites with electrical

scenic Devil's Rock.

Devils
Rock is a fault cliff dated to 2,200 million years.
It has a face of 600 feet rising 300 feet above the
water level. Interesting features are the scars of
mining tunnels chiseled into the cliff during the
silver rush era.

The
Temiskaming Wildlife Centre is a wildlife rehabilitation
facility that cares for injured, sick and orphaned
northern Ontario wildlife. The TWC is a great rest
stop for highway travelers with a playground, clean
washrooms, gift shop, and a 1.3km wheelchair-accessible
trail which staff and volunteers guide visitors along
to learn about our northern wildlife. Services are
available in either French or English.

New Liskeard the Algonquin Memorial Beach Park has
everything to offer for summertime activities. Three
baseball diamonds, a soccer field, sandy beach, concession
stand, washroom facilities, beach volleyball courts,
a fully accessible playground and a beautiful picnic
area just off the boardwalk make this a popular spot
in the summer.
The Kiwanis Park, beside the Pool/Fitness Centre,
offers a children's playground, a mini-putt and batting
cage, a concession stand, washroom facilities, outdoor
grills for barbecuing and a picturesque view of Lake
Temiskaming.
Petes
Dam: If you like meandering over waterfalls or are
looking for a nice place to picnic then head to Pete's
Dam located just west of New Liskeard on Highway 65.

at Pete's Dam.

the Tri-Town Ski Village (705-672-3888). It offers
excellent downhill ski facilities.
Also just a few miles to the south is the Temiskaming
Nordic Ski Club (705-679-5106) host to the 1996
Provincial Championships, 1997 and 1998 Northern Ontario
Division Series, provides exemplary groomed trails
for the beginner or experienced skier. Both facilities

Snowmachining:

With
a four month winter season, a wide variety of well maintained
trails and incredible scenery this is the place to snowmachine.
The Tri-Town Sno Travelers (TTST), a dedicated group
made up of 6 neighboring communities, maintain 129 km
of top trails and 186 km of local trails. As a central
location, North Bay, Sudbury, Timmins, Rouyn-Noranda
and Cochrane are only a days ride away. Many events
take place throughout the winter including "Snowfest".

Temiskaming
Art Gallery:

The
Gallery, which contains a two level exhibition area,
represents the Tri-Town and surrounding district.
Although it concentrates on works by Northern artists,
the gallery also hosts many exhibits from the south,
including exhibits from the Art Gallery of Ontario
and the Royal Ontario Museum. Each exhibit runs 3
- 4 weeks and covers various art media. The gallery
also exhibits its own permanent collection of art
work donated by many well-known local artists.
