WHO ARE WE?

The City of Temiskaming Shores is a single-tier municipality situated in Northeastern Ontario and located on scenic Lake Temiskaming, the head waters of the Ottawa River. The City provides services to approximately 11,000 permanent residents and is a regional service centre for an estimated population base of an additional 25 to 35 thousand people. The City commenced operation on January 1, 2004 with the amalgamation of the former municipalities of New Liskeard, Haileybury and Dymond. With an annual budget of $21 million, we provide a broad range of local services to our residents and our business community.

STATO

The South Temiskaming Active Travel Organization (STATO) was formed as a result of community members' interest in promotion and development of an active participative transportation routes through the City of Temiskaming Shores hi-lighting the waterfront.

Dedicated volunteers make up the not-for-profit organization bringing a wide and varied range of experience to the organization. STATO's mission statement is "To develop, manage, preserve and promote a system of integrated, year-round, activity trails in South Temiskaming for non-motorized public use."

The stated objectives of the organization are to:
a) Develop and oversee a trail system in Temiskaming Shores connecting Dymond, New Liskeard and Haileybury,
b) Pursue trails development with a focus on environment sustainability and harmony as well as economic self-sufficiency, and
c) Work in partnership with other communities in South Temiskaming and the surrounding regions for the development of a broad network of integrated an interconnected trails.

The City of Temiskaming Shores passed By-Law No. 2006-063 to authorize entering into a Strategic Alliance Agreement with STATO and also passed By-Law No. 2006-055 to establish a linear park/activity trail maintenance program for the City. STATO has been and continues to be active lobbying local interest in the project and fundraising. To date they have over 900 members for their organization and have held many fundraising events. The momentum is building in the community for the development of the waterfront linear park as part of STATO's active transportation plan.

Dump Hours

The New Liskeard Landfill site is Closed.  All refuse is to be sent to the Haileybury Landfill Site.

The Haileybury Landfill is located approximately 2-3 miles south of the intersection of Hwy. 558 and Hwy. 11 on Firstbrook Twp. Line. The sign at the highway is black on white directional arrow and indicates “garbage depot road”. Turn right, approximately ½ mile in off the highway, on the right again.
Dump Hours in Haileybury are Tuesday thru Saturday from 8:30 p.m. thru 4:30 p.m. closed Sunday & Monday.

Commercial businesses who find themselves with an abundance of recyclable material (corrugated cardboard) and wish to dispose of it may do so at the recycling facility on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Be advised …an “Environmental Master Plan” for the City is currently being researched and written. Keep an eye out for any changes upon release.


WINTER GARBAGE 2009-2010 COLLECTION SCHEDULE:

Starting November 30, 2009 the residential garbage collection schedule will change from weekly to biweekly collections. The biweekly collections will continue throughout the winter months and residential garbage will be collected on the following dates:

WEEK OF:
December 01, 14, 28
January 11 and 25
February 8 and 22
March 8 and 22

NOTE: Municipal garbage by-laws require the following:

- Residential bag limits shall double during biweekly collection period.

- Proper receptables must be placed at the curb for collection.

- Note that the Municipality supports and encourages recycling through the use of depot sites at different locations throughout the Municipality.

- Maximum bag size acceptable shall be 36 in. high X 24 in. diameter.

- Maximum weight shall be no more than 23 kg's (50 lbs).
