The City has openings available for volunteers to serve on the following committees or boards for a term concurrent with the term of council. Council encourages everyone with an interest in these committees to apply.

Committees & Boards of Council – includes attendance by the staff, council representatives and community members, where applicable. See individual Terms of Reference for further information.

Meeting frequency varies. Secretarial role by Clerk or designate. Council representatives are responsible for making a report at the following regular meeting of council.

Accessibility Advisory Committee 
The Accessibility Advisory Committee focuses on the following: To advise Council in respect to the prescribed obligations and standards under the AODA and regs. Meetings established by committee at the of the term.
Age Friendly Committee (Representing All Ages)
The Age Friendly Committee focuses on the following: Lead initiatives aimed at making the City an all age friendly community. Would include unveiling of Splash Pad Project until complete and turned over to City Recreation. Meets quarterly.
Active Travel Committee
The Active Travel Committee focuses on the following: Lead initiatives within the Active Travel Master Plan and any outstanding or ongoing  initiatives of STATO, Active School Travel, Bicycle Friendly Committee, etc. Meets as required.
Committee of Adjustment
The Committee of Adjustment focuses on the following: Planning Act Approval Authority for Consents, Minor Variance, Validation and Cancellation Certificates. Meets as required to consider applications.
Recreation Committee
The Recreation Services Committee focuses on the following: Recreation Facilities, Parks, Trails and Sport and Recreational programming
Temiskaming Shores Climate Change Committee
The Temiskaming Shores Climate Change Committee focuses on the following: Identification of the City’s role on climate change and provide recommendations to Council to address climate change and emission reduction targets. Meets every other month or as required.
Temiskaming Shores Development Corporation
The Temiskaming Shores Development Corporation focuses on the following: To provide economic development services to the City specifically for the purpose of providing counseling service to or encourage growth and small business operations. Meets three times per year, or as required.

 

Independent Boards – Governed independently with elected officials eligible for appointment. See individual Board legislation and obligations for further information.

Meeting frequency varies and is set by the respective Board. Council representatives have responsibilities to the governing Board and is responsible for making a report to the Council when appropriate 

 Business Improvement Area (BIA) 

(New Liskeard only) The BIA is designated for the area defined along Whitewood Avenue and Armstrong Street. The purpose of the BIA is to oversee the improvement, beautification and maintenance of municipally-owned land, develop and sustain a strong commercial core, and promote the area as a business or shopping district.

Eligibility Requirements: Members (Directors) consist of persons who are assessed with respect to relatable property in the area that is within the area of the BIA.

 Temiskaming Shores Public Library Board 

The Temiskaming Shores Public Library Board is responsible for making policies for the operation of the Library; for obtaining adequate funding for Library materials, services and programs; and for promoting the Library in the community. The board operates under the authority of the Ontario Public Libraries Act (R.S.O 1990, chapter P.44)

 Police Services Board 

The Police Services Boards governs the municipal police forces and in the case of O.P.P. contract locations, serve as advisory bodies. *Changes to Police Services Board subject to change with Provincial Mandates; expected 2023.
