City of Temiskaming Shores Thanks Councillor Foley for his Service following Resignation
October 1, 2024 - For Immediate Release
The City of Temiskaming Shores extends its gratitude to Councillor Jesse Foley for nearly 10 years of service on Council. Jesse Foley resigned from the position of Councillor effective September 18, 2024, through a written submission.
Jesse was first elected as Councillor in 2014, and was re-elected in each subsequent City of Temiskaming Shores municipal election – 2018 and 2022.
"On behalf of Council, we extend our thanks to Councillor Foley for his time and dedication in fulfilling his role as Councillor, and for representing the City on the Timiskaming Health Unit Board of Health and on the District of Timiskaming Social Services Administration Board," said Mayor Laferriere. “We wish him and his family the very best, and are confident that he will continue to make positive impacts in our community.”
At the October 1, 2024 Committee of the Whole meeting, Council of the City of Temiskaming Shores accepted the resignation, declared the Office of Councillor to be vacant, and discussed options available to fill the vacancy.
The Municipal Act requires Council to within sixty (60) days after the day a declaration of vacancy is made, to appoint a person to fill the vacancy, or pass a By-law requiring a By-election.
Council voted on the appointment of a person through a direct appointment of an election candidate, and will adopt the associated policy at the October 15, 2024 Regular Council meeting. Staff are working toward supporting Council’s decision, and more information will be published shortly.
