Notice of Public Meeting
Proposed Amendment to the Retail Business Holiday ExemptionBy-law
Notice is hereby given pursuant to the Retail Business Holiday Act, that Council for The Corporation of the City of Temiskaming Shores will hold a Public Meeting to receive comments regarding a proposed amendment to By-Law No. 2005-121, which regulates the opening of retail businesses on certain holidays. The By-law currently permits retail businesses the option to remain open on Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day and Thanksgiving Day.
The proposed By-law amendment could add one or more of the following holidays as permitted days for retail businesses to remain open, for the maintenance or development of tourism within the City of Temiskaming Shores: New Year’s Day, Family Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and/or Christmas Day.
The Public Meeting will be held:

Any person may attend the public meeting and/or make written or verbal presentation to express support of, or opposition to the proposed by-law amendment:

Submit comments in writing for the public meeting: Persons wishing to provide written comments may submit using the email address above, prior to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

Register to speak at the public meeting: Persons wishing to speak to Council may register with the Clerk prior to 12:00 noon Tuesday, September 17, 2024, using the above-noted email or telephone number.
The Public Meeting will be recorded and live-streamed on the City’s social media page(s), and posted online. As such, names, comments, and/or presentation materials will become part of the public record.
In addition to the Public Meeting, an online questionnaire https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/M5JXR2R is also available to provide input; available until September 25, 2024. Note: No contact information (name, address, etc.) will be made public as part of the questionnaire.
Further information relating to the proposed by-law amendment to the Retail Business Holiday Exemption By-Law is available for review between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, by contacting the undersigned, or by viewing Administrative Report No. CS-027-2024, within the Committee of the Whole Agenda Package dated July 9, 2024 (found on page 115).
