Proclamations are ceremonial documents issued and signed by the Mayor on behalf of Temiskaming Shores City Council, to officially recognize the importance of particular days, weeks or months.

Whereas at the February 6, 2024 Committee of the Whole meeting, Council approved the development of a bi-annual proclamation schedule.
Be it resolved that Council for the City of Temiskaming Shores hereby proclaims the following days in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
And further that the Council of the City of Temiskaming Shores respectfully acknowledges the importance of honouring these holidays in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

May 15, 2025 | Moose Hide Campaign Day

Whereas the Moose Hide Campaign is an Indigenous-led, grassroots movement of men, boys and all Canadians standing up to end violence against women, children and all those along the gender continuum;

Whereas the Moose Hide Campaign was founded along the 'Highway of Tears' in British Columbia in response to the injustices and violence faced by many women and children in Canada, particularly those who are Indigenous; and

Whereas Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is at epidemic proportions across Canada with more than 4 in 10 women having experienced it in their lifetime, and this reality is worse for Indigenous women who are twice as likely to experience violence from their current or former partners; and

Whereas the Moose Hide Campaign has distributed over six million moose hide pins that each spark five conversations about issues of violence against women, children and all those along the gender continuum; and

Whereas wearing the moose hide pin demonstrates a commitment to honour, respect and protect the women and children in your life, end gender-based violence and take meaningful action towards reconciliation with Indigenous peoples; and

Whereas participation in the Moose Hide Campaign is a concrete action for all citizens to address the legacies of colonization, residential schools and the reality of more than 1,200 missing or murdered women in Canada; and

Whereas engagement with the Moose Hide Campaign aligns with the United Nations Declaration on the Right of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, and the Calls for Justice of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG2S+).

Be it resolved that Council of the City of Temiskaming Shores hereby proclaims May 15, 2025, as Moose Hide Campaign Day; and

That Council directs staff to promote the passage of this resolution on the appropriate corporate communications channels.

October 24, 2024 | Child Care Worker & Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day

Whereas years of research confirms the benefits of high-quality early learning and child care for young children's intellectual, emotional, social and physical development and later life outcomes; and

Whereas child care promotes the well-being of children and responds to the needs of families and the broader community by supporting quality of life so that citizens can fully participate in and contribute to the economic and social life of their community; and

Whereas trained and knowledgeable Registered Early Childhood Educators are the key to quality in early years and child care programs - in licensed child care, Early ON programs, child life programs, and full-day kindergarten; and

Whereas Registered Early Childhood Educators and child care workers will be vital to the success of the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care system.

Therefore be it resolved that Council for the City of Temiskaming Shores hereby proclaims October 24, 2024 be designated as "Child Care Worker & Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day" in the City of Temiskaming Shores in recognition of the education, dedication and commitment of child care workers to children, their families and quality of life of the community.

August 31, 2024 | International Overdose Awareness Day

Whereas Council for The Corporation of the City of Temiskaming Shores acknowledges the harm and hardship caused by the drug poisoning (overdose) crisis; and

Whereas the purpose of International Overdose Awareness Day is to remember loved ones lost to drug poisoning, and to end the stigma of
substance use and mental health; and

Whereas drug poisoning in Timiskaming claimed the lives of more than nine (9) residents last year, together with countless more affected forever.

Therefore be it resolved that Council for the City of Temiskaming Shores hereby proclaims August 31, 2024, as "International Overdose Awareness Day" in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Flags at all Ontario government buildings within ridings or community of residence will be flown at half-mast upon the death of:

a current member of the provincial parliament of Ontario
a current privy councillor, senator or a member of the House of Commons from the Province of Ontario
