City of Temiskaming Shores Wins Prestigious M.G. Griffiths Cup

The City of Temiskaming Shores is proud to announce it has been awarded the M.G. Griffiths Cup by the Lifesaving Society Ontario for 2025. The award was presented during the Lifesaving Society Ontario Award Presentation held on April 10, 2026.
The M.G. Griffiths Cup is awarded annually to a municipal affiliate operating the largest lifesaving program in a community with a population under 10,000.
The City of Temiskaming Shores earned first place with 4,215 points, followed by Kirkland Lake in second with 2,926 points, and the Town of Hanover in third with 2,549 points.
This recognition highlights the continued growth and success of the City’s aquatics and lifesaving programming, including swimming lessons, leadership development, lifeguard training, instructor certification programs, and community water safety education.
“This award is a tremendous achievement for our community and reflects the dedication of our team and everyone who participates in our aquatic programs. In a region where lakes and waterways are central to many recreational experiences, water safety is an essential skill. We are proud to provide opportunities for people of all ages to learn, grow, and gain skills that will serve them throughout their lives. Receiving the M.G. Griffiths Cup recognizes the success of these programs, and the positive impact they have across the region”, said Mayor Jeff Lafferriere.
The City is honoured to be recognized provincially for its commitment to aquatic leadership, water safety education, and the development of future lifeguards and instructors.
Sincere appreciation is also extended to the aquatic staff, instructors, volunteers, participants, and families whose ongoing support and involvement made this achievement possible.
