The City of Temiskaming Shores is seeking a motivated, experienced, and forward-thinking Fire Chief to provide strategic leadership and operational management of the municipal Fire Department.

Reports to: Chief Administrative Officer
Department: Fire Services
Salary: $118,055 - $138,888 annually
Hours: 35 hours per week

About the Role

The successful candidate will oversee fire suppression services, emergency response operations, fire prevention and public education programs, training initiatives, and departmental administration while ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.

This key leadership role requires a collaborative and community-focused professional with strong communication, organizational, and decision-making skills. The Fire Chief will work closely with municipal leadership, emergency service partners, staff, and the community to support public safety, emergency preparedness, and continuous improvement within the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and prioritize departmental goals, policies and procedures in alignment with Council direction and corporate objectives;
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with government agencies, municipal partners, and emergency service organizations;
  • Lead the recruitment, training, development, and performance management of staff and volunteer firefighters;
  • Develop and recommend policies, procedures, and long-term strategies to support service excellence, community safety, and organizational growth; and
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, and industry standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Fire Protection Technology, Emergency Management or a related field;
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant, progressive leadership experience within fire services, emergency management or public administration;
  • Experience working within a composite or volunteer fire service is an asset;
  • NFPA Standard certifications are preferred;
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification;
  • Valid Class “DZ” Ontario Driver’s Licence is preferred; and
  • Bilingualism is considered an asset.
