Flood Watch in Effect Until April 21, 2026
Flood Watch in Effect
The Ministry of Natural Resources is advising residents that a Flood Watch bulletin is in effect until Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.
What Residents Should Know
Spring freshet is under way and water levels and river flows are expected to continue to rise and remain high as precipitation and runoff move through the watershed. Significant rainfall has already been received across the area, with additional rainfall possible through the week.
Weather and Watershed Conditions
- Rain, at times heavy, has continued, with additional rainfall forecast through the week.
- Another rain event later in the week could add further rainfall totals.
- Water levels and flows are climbing due to rain, snow melt, and runoff.
- Flows in rivers, streams, and creeks are increasing as warming temperatures accelerate snowmelt.
- Ground conditions are saturated and have little ability to absorb additional moisture.
Potential Impacts
- Watercourses are expected to react to increased rainfall and runoff.
- Homes, boathouses, docks, and other structures located near lake or river level, or in low-lying flood-prone areas, could be at risk of flooding.
- Shorelines and banks adjacent to waterbodies are slippery and unstable.
- Lake and river ice is deteriorating and is considered unsafe in most areas.
Safety Information
- Keep a close watch on local conditions and weather forecasts.
- Exercise caution around lakes, rivers, creeks, streams, and other waterbodies.
- Supervise children and pets near water.
- Residents in low-lying areas and along shorelines should monitor conditions and prepare accordingly.
Additional Information
The ministry is closely monitoring weather and watershed conditions and will issue further updates as appropriate. This message remains in effect until Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at 4:00 p.m., unless updated earlier.
