Orange Watch - Winter Storm March 15 Update

Weather Notification
Orange Watch - Winter Storm

Environment Canada issued an Orange Warning - Winter Storm for our area, beginning Sunday, and continuing through Monday night.

Avoid non-essential travel and outdoor activities; travel will likely be hazardous. Road closures are possible, and prolonged utility outages are likely.

What to expect:

·         Major winter storm expected, with total snowfall and ice pellet accumulations of 20 to 40 cm for areas north of Highway 17.

·         Northeasterly wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h.

·         Freezing rain with 6 to 12 mm of ice-build-up.

·         Near zero visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow.

·         Northeasterly wind gusts of 70-80 km/hr.

Operations Update:

·         Municipal crews are prepared for 24/7 coverage. Road maintenance and treatment will be prioritized based on road classification and conditions.

·         Weather may impact Temiskaming Transit Operations and waste collection.  We will continue to post updates as required.

 Reminders:

·       Prepare for possible disruptions to transportation, services, and utilities.

·       Keep a safe distance from snowplows and other vehicles

·       Do not park on City roads, and City parking lots.  Plows cannot easily move around parked cars, making it difficult to clear snow.

·       Be prepared by having an emergency plan and a 72-hour emergency kit ready in case of power outages.
