The Corporation of the City of Temiskaming Shores is advising the public of a wastewater spill event identified at the New Liskeard Lagoon on October 8, 2026.
Event Information
Location: New Liskeard Lagoon, with discharge into the Wabi River.
Date Identified: October 8, 2026.
Estimated Start Date: August 30, 2026 (subject to confirmation).
Cause
Preliminary findings indicate that a possible blockage or pipe failure may have resulted in partially treated wastewater being discharged into the Wabi River.
Duration
The discharge may have occurred between August 30 and October 8, 2026. The precise duration remains under investigation.
Current Status
The cause, duration, and total volume of the discharge are being investigated. Confirmation of whether the discharge is ongoing or has ceased is pending.
Regulatory Notification and Assessment
The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks and other appropriate regulatory authorities have been notified, and the City is working with the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA), the operating authority for the facility, to assess the incident.
