Significant Weather Event and Snow Removal Update

The City of Temiskaming Shores remains under a Significant Weather Event declaration in accordance with the Minimum Maintenance Standards (MMS).

Public Works crews continue to operate around the clock to move snow and restore safe roadway conditions following this unprecedented snowfall event.

Current Progress

  • Both downtown cores have been completed.
  • School zones are expected to be completed by the end of today.

Upcoming Operations

  • Overnight work will focus on Whitewood Avenue.
  • Friday day shift operations will address Haileybury arterial roads.
  • Snow removal will remain ongoing.
  • Additional tractor-mounted snowblowers have been deployed to assist with low-volume roads and snowbank reduction.

Safety Reminders for Residents and Businesses

  • No overnight on-street parking. This is critical to allow crews to safely and effectively clear snow.
  • Large snowbanks at intersections and along roadways can reduce visibility for both drivers and pedestrians. Approach intersections slowly and take extra care when watching for pedestrians and other vehicles.
  • Do not build snowbanks or forts near roads, as they create safety hazards for both children and drivers.
  • Use caution when driving and expect reduced lane widths and limited visibility.
  • Place waste and recycling bins at the ends of driveways, not on the roadway or sidewalks.
  • Keep a safe distance from snow removal equipment and avoid passing active operations.
  • Clear snow away from fire hydrants, if possible, to assist emergency response.

The City will continue working to improve conditions and make roadways as safe as possible. Residents are asked for continued patience as crews work through priority areas.
