The City of Temiskaming Shores is currently seeking a reliable and skilled Temporary Cemetery Worker to assist with the seasonable upkeep of our municipal cemeteries.

Position: Temporary / Seasonal
Wage: $25.88
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

Role and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily physical maintenance of cemetery grounds by means of mowing, trimming, edging, and levelling, while safely operating required equipment. 
  • Provide precise grave site preparation and maintenance for interments, including layout, marking, excavation, backfilling, levelling, cleanup and site restoration.
  • Prepare monument foundations to specified standards, and ensure the proper installation, leveling, and alignment of grave markers and monuments, in accordance with cemetery regulations and layout specifications.
  • Responsible for planting, trimming, and grooming trees, branches, and shrubs, as well as maintaining flowerbeds through planting and watering, while excluding any personal plants or trees located on individual burial plots. Properly maintain freshly seeded plots by watering them as required. 
  • Ensure general road maintenance in cemetery areas, which may include spreading gravel. 
  • Required to re-seed burial plots from previous year to ensure continuous upkeep. 
  • Responsible for maintaining general cleanliness of cemetery buildings as needed. 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Succesfully completed Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Vaild G Ontario Driver's Licence with acceptable driving record.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and exprience of safe operation of trackor with back-hoe attachment is an asset.
  • Knowledge of cemetery operations (e.g. Bereavement Authority of ontario regulations is considered an asset.
