About the Role | Reporting to the Treasurer, the Deputy Treasurer is responsible for coordinating and reviewing municipal accounting activities which include cash management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, capital assets, payroll, and general ledger account maintenance. This role assists the Treasurer in fulfilling the statutory duties of the Treasurer related to the financial management of the City, as well as, with the supervision of front-line staff ensuring the delivery of excellent customer service is maintained.
The successful applicant will administer the property tax and utility billing cycles, including billing, collection, and account reconciliation, and will assist the Treasurer with overall tax collection functions. The role also involves providing support in financial operations, maintaining accurate records, and monitoring compliance with the approved budget. Additional responsibilities include assisting with month, quarter, and year-end reporting, audit and budget preparation, cash flow monitoring, and the management of investments and debt. The Deputy Treasurer will also serve as backup for payroll processing.
Job Requirements | The ideal candidate will have knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures related to a municipal finance, with at least three (3) years of related experience, preferably in a supervisory role. Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards, will be considered an asset.
