Temiskaming Shores OPP Detachment Board

Pursuant to the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019, the City of Temiskaming Shores is inviting applications from community members to join the Temiskaming Shores OPP Detachment Board.

The Board, which represents the City of Temiskaming Shores, includes two (2) elected officials, two (2) community members and one (1) provincial appointee. Currently, we are seeking applications to fill one (1) community member appointment. The term of this appointment will expire in the Fall of 2026.

Eligibility Requirements:

To become a Community Appointee, you must:

  • Be an eligible elector in the City of Temiskaming Shores
  • Obtain and maintain a current and acceptable Criminal Record Check, at your expense, prior to appointment to the Board; and
  • Successfully complete online training courses with respect to the roles and responsibilities of Board members as prescribed by the Act.

You are not eligible if you are:

  • A judge or justice of the peace;
  • A member of a police service, special constable, or a First Nation Officer;
  • Someone practicing criminal law (either defense or prosecution);
  • A director, officer, or employee of any policing provider;
  • A former member of a police services unless:
    • The OPP Detachment Board does not maintain a police service that the person was a member of; and
    • At least one year has passed since the person ceased to be a member of any police service.

Appointed members of the Board will receive compensation at a per-diem rate, as well as reimbursement for any Board-related travel costs outside of the community. This opportunity offers a chance to actively participate in shaping local law enforcement and safety initiatives.
