Background
Located at the head of Lake Temiskaming, the City of Temiskaming Shores is situated in northeastern Ontario near the Quebec border. Temiskaming Shores has a population of approximately 9,634, based on the 2021 Census. The City is governed by a seven-member Council comprised of one Mayor and six Councilors and is supported by various Committees of Council appointed by Council.
The municipal public transit system was established in 1976 and currently provides service within the City of Temiskaming Shores and the Town of Cobalt. The system covers an area of approximately 182 square kilometres and serves a combined population of approximately 10,000 residents. The purpose of the service is to provide safe, reliable, and accessible transportation between the two municipalities in an efficient and effective manner.
The existing transit fleet consists of six vehicles, including three full-size conventional transit buses used for primary fixed-route service and three smaller 8-metre shuttle-style buses used to support lower-demand routes and operational flexibility. Fleet renewal and modernization are required to maintain service reliability, meet accessibility standards, and support evolving operational and technology needs.
